Rediscover the 1980's pop & underground landscape with a great mix of cult classics and new wave anthems, woven together by DJ Robert Drake the final Friday of every month from 7-11pm on WXPN.

Drake began spinning the new wave sounds when they were NEW wave sounds, working in various underground clubs in Philadelphia during the gritty era of 1980-1986.

From off-radar spots like The Love Club to commanding nights at Philly's premier alternative hotspots The Kennel Club, Omni's and a few special nights at Danceteria in NYC, the Rock of the 80s became his passion.

And now he shares his passion with you - every final Friday on WXPN.

REASONS TO BE THANKFUL - November 2013

It's the Thanksgiving weekend and this month on the Land Of The Lost, we explore just some of the musicians we're thankful to have discovered oh-so-many years ago! For me, it would have to be that first time I heard The B-52's back in 1979 ... the same year I uncovered Klaus Nomi and so many others!

Feel free to share your thoughts - just comment on our Facebook group wall https://www.facebook.com/groups/40987372206/ or pop into the LOTL chat room ... you can also reach me via email at requests@xpn.org

THE DARK SIDE OF NEW WAVE - October 2013

Join Robert Drake THIS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 25 for our monthly trip inside the Land of the Lost! And, as we do every October, we'll be entering the Dark Side of New Wave in the spirit of the Halloween Season! From Bauhaus and Bunnydrums to Siouxsie and Sisters of Mercy and more... So kill the lights, fire up some candles and let's all get spooky!

And yes, our LOTL Chat room will be up and running
- visit it ... IF YOU DARE!

LAND OF THE LOST SPOTLIGHT - September 2013

Time once again to dive deep into the Land Of The Lost for another 4-hour block of the Rock of the 80s! Tonight we'll turn on the Land Of The Lost Spotlight and showcase some of our favorite New Wave bands by tossing them under the LOTL Spotlight and playing three songs BACK to BACK to BACK!

Of course our LOTL Chat room will be up and running - visit it here: http://www.chatzy.com/LOTL . So, move the furniture and roll up the rugs -- it's time to dance this mess around - inside the LAND OF THE LOST!

JOHN PEEL & MORE - August 2013

In this edition of the Land Of The Lost, we'll spotlight some of the New Wave artists that will be passing through town this fall! Expect to hear tracks from Pet Shop Boys, Cyndi Lauper, X, Blondie and more! And in the 10pm hour we'll remember the legendary late great BBC radio host JOHN PEEL (today is his birthday!) - by playing an hour of Peel Sessions!

Of course our LOTL Chat room will be up and running - visit it here: http://www.chatzy.com/LOTL .  So, move the furniture and roll up the rugs -- it's time to dance this mess around - inside the LAND OF THE LOST!

LIFE CHANGING SONGS - June 2013

Continuing from last month's show - since we had so much fun with it! - We're asking listeners to share a "Rock of the 80s" song that really changed or shaped your life when you first heard it years ago!! Remember "Rock of the 80s" is a genre, so if the song actually was released in the late 70s - it's all good. You can post it on the LOTL Facebook Group Wall (https://www.facebook.com/groups/40987372206/) or email requests@xpn.org

TOM TOM CLUB - May 2013

Join me the final Friday of May - May 31 - as we enter the Land Of The Lost and celebrate the Rock of the 80s!

Besides our normal celebration of the Rock of the 80s, I'll be chatting with Chris Frantz & Tina Weymouth of Tom Tom Club in the 8pm hour! Also, I'll be spotlighting just some of the answers I've received this month - when I asked listeners to share a New Wave song that really changed or shaped your life when you first heard it years ago!

The LOTL chat room will be up and running - to enter, just click HERE. See you on the radio from 7-11pm EDT or live worldwide - just click the Listen Live dropdown at the top of the screen.
