Piney Gir (a.k.a. Angela Penhaligon) makes her first appearance on Mountain Stage, recorded live at the Culture Center Theater in Charleston, W.Va. Originally from Kansas City, Penhaligon grew up in a strict Pentecostal home; her father was a minister who forbade TV and modern popular music. She eventually relocated to London, where she threw herself into music and dabbled in everything from garage-rock and punk to country and electronic music. Following a stint with the band Vic Twenty, Penhaligon released her solo debut, Peakahokahoo, in 2004. After touring Europe opening for Erasure, she released Hold Yer Horses with her own band. She recorded her latest album, Geronimo, in Hollywood. Here, she performs songs from Geronimo with Garo Nahoulakian on guitar, Graham Roby on drums and Rob Campanella on bass.
