Patterson Hood is best known as a frontman, singer, songwriter and guitar player for the prolific rock and roll band Drive-By Truckers. He and partner Mike Cooley started that band in 1996 and have spent most of the past fifteen years touring and recording critically acclaimed albums. DBT (as their fan base calls them) has amassed well over 1500 shows and released eleven album. Patterson has also contributed music and songs to several films and released two acclaimed solo albums. This fall he will be releasing a third solo album. Heat Lightning Rumbles in the Distance is a collection of songs he recently recorded with a bunch of really talented friends including his DBT bandmates, David Barbe, Kelly Hogan, cellist Jacob Morris, and Will Johnson and Scott Danbom from the band Centro-matic. Patterson's dad, famed Muscle Shoals session bassist David Hood, plays on several racks. A very personal and beautiful album, Heat Lightning represents somewhat a departure from Hood's previous work. it will be released in September from ATO Records.
