With his off-kilter sense of humor and tendency to venture into realms of experimental rock and jazz, Mike Doughty's performance is certain to be another crowd-pleaser. Doughty led the now-defunct, genre-defying '90s band Soul Coughing before heading out on his own, beginning with his solo debut Skittish in 1996. His 2005 release, Haughty Melodic, contains the hit "Looking at the World From the Bottom of a Well," while songs such as "27 Jennifers" and "Busting Up a Starbucks" helped Doughty gain recognition for his starkly emotional and often self-deprecating lyrics. His latest album, Yes and Also Yes, followed closely on the heels of his electronic sampler, Dubious Luxury, which was released earlier last year. Doughty has played the XPoNential Music Festival, XPN's Free At Noon, as well as XPN's annual Musicians On Call event at World Cafe Live in February.
