If you’re in the mood to discover a new favorite album, then today is your lucky day! Ruban Nielson taps into his family’s island heritage for Unknown Mortal Orchestra‘s ambitious fifth album, V. Revisiting the biggest hits and fan-favorites of their 40+ year career, everything old is new again on U2‘s band-curated Songs of Surrender. M83 bandleader Anthony Gonzalez recaptures the heights of his electro-shoegaze project’s breakthrough albums on the euphoric Fantasy.
Bearing a title worthy of a Fiona Apple LP, Praise a Lord Who Chews. But Which Does Not Consume; (or Simply: Hot Between Worlds) is an essential experiment in glam from globetrotting artist Yves Tumor. Raising the stakes for his forthcoming third album, Hozier builds anticipation with the three-song Eat Your Young EP. Also on the EP front, Philadelphia-based singer Saleka collects the songs she provided for M. Night Shyamalan’s series Servant on Songs from the Attic. Finally Blacklips Bar: Androgyns and Deviants — Industrial Romance for Bruised and Battered Angels (1992–1995) captures rarely heard underground cabaret performances by ANOHNI, Joey Arias, Edith Massey, and more boundary-pushing regulars of the East Village’s Pyramid Club.
