It’s a well-known fact that April showers bring May flowers, but did you know they also bring new album releases? It’s true! North Carolina collective Wednesday present their ambitious and expansive fifth album, Rat Saw God, which John Vettese dissected a few weeks back. As described in his recent World Cafe appearance, Ruston Kelly‘s The Weakness serves as a difficult (but necessary) reset for the Tennessee songwriter. On her self-titled debut as Blondshell, Sabrina Teitelbaum asserts herself as a hard-hitting force in the world of storytelling indie rock. On As All Get Out, his fourth solo release, Delta Spirit’s Matthew Logan Vasquez reflects on family life and sobriety without losing his trademark freewheeling energy.
New York duo Overcoats deliver on the promise of their late-February Free at Noon concert with their hooky third album, Winner. Philly favorite Devon Gilfillian‘s love for classic soul and R&B is on full display on the exuberant and guest-packed Love You Anyway. Brimming with rich atmospheres and evocative melodies, Labyrinth is the latest opus from LA-via-Maine multi-instrumentalist Heather Woods Broderick. Arriving the same week as her debut novel, The Deep End finds Susanna Hoffs putting jangly, Bangle-y spins on favorites by The Rolling Stones, Squeeze, Billie Eilish, and more.
