Another solid month of new releases comes to a close with… yet another solid week of new releases. Recent Free at Noon guests Seratones launch their galactic funk into the cosmos on Love and Algorhythms. Longtime XPN favorites The Head and the Heart employ a broad sonic palette on Every Shade of Blue, their fifth full-length. On Forgiveness, formerly Philly-based duo Girlpool dip into glowering atmospheres and nocturnal anthems. Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews struts back into the spotlight with Lifted, his first album in five years.
Chaz Bear’s seventh album as Toro y Moi, MAHAL, is bursting with rubbery basslines and locked-in beats. On her second LP, i don’t know who needs to hear this…, Tomberlin expertly spins a web of intimate indie folk.
