Returning favorites and new discoveries make this week’s batch of new releases a delight! Sure to be a highlight of this year’s XPNFest, Bartees Strange responsibly sources a set of omnivorous pop on his second full-length, Farm to Table. Philly-rooted rockers Mt. Joy blend the cosmic and organic on Orange Blood. Now performing as a trio, Foals’ Life is Yours follows the ambitious two-part Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost with a taut collection of shimmering anthems. The simple title of Patty Griffin’s rarities collection Tape belies the charming, home-recorded treasures within.
Originally written as the soundtrack to an experimental dance performance, Ugly Season stands on its own as a gripping album by Perfume Genius. Athens-based Σtella makes her Sub Pop debut with Up and Away; a blend of Greek folk traditions with breezy breakbeats.
