As we inch ever closer toward summer, a vivid assortment of new albums blooms before us. Recent NON-COMM guest Craig Finn’s fifth solo album, A Legacy of Rentals, offers an introspective take on the Hold Steady leader’s signature narratives. Waterslide, Diving Board, Ladder to the Sky is the evocative, up-shifting third album from Brighton-based indie rockers Porridge Radio. West Coast mainstays Delta Spirit present One is One, a surprising mix of electronics and Americana. Award-winning Northern Irish singer Bridie Monds-Watson returns with their latest as SOAK, If I Never Know You Like This Again, imbuing their poetic lyrics with ‘90s alt-rock edge.
On Carry Me Home, a lost jam session is rediscovered and turned into a loving tribute by Mavis Staples to her longtime friend and collaborator Levon Helm. Darkwave icon Zola Jesus reemerges after a five-year break with the captivating Arkhon. Nashville-via-Melbourne singer Jo Schornikow’s ALTAR pairs charming melodies with the same warm instrumentation she supplies as a member of Phosphorescent.
